Hill-Rom / Tempur-Pedic FAQ

How many hospitals will have the new sleep systems?
Hill-Rom expects that eventually the product being introduced will be in 50% of the U.S. hospitals.

Which hospitals are the first to implement?
In what parts of the country?
Hill-Rom is a national, premier brand and covers all parts of the country.  Only time will tell who will be the first to take advantage of this exciting new product. One order for 200 beds has already been placed by a hospital in Palm Springs, California.

Are there any specific benefits to the patient in addition to the "comfort" benefits of TEMPUR material? In fact, the mattress can contribute very positively to making the HOSPITAL bed a healing place.  People sleep better on a Tempur-Pedic, as shown in a study conducted in a Sleep Center in Lexington, KY.  In a study conducted by Prince Market Research, 83% of patients at a large health system in Nashville reported they were satisfied or very satisfied with the ability of the Tempur-Pedic mattress to help them “sleep soundly in spite of hospital noise or interruptions.”

Many patients with specific diagnoses sleep better on a Tempur-Pedic mattress.  Studies have shown people with the following conditions sleep better on a Tempur-Pedic:

  • Fibromyalgia
  • Pregnant women
  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Back Pain
  • At risk for falls

Back pain is an especially important category when considering how to improve the sleep of patients.  Thirty percent (30%) or more of the American public suffers back pain.  Even when that is not the primary diagnosis, back pain can make sleep difficult for many patients.

We believe hospitals recognizing that comfort and restorative sleep are clinically necessary to promote healing, and that non-pharmacological aids to better sleep can improve patient outcomes, will turn to Tempur-Pedic.

Are these mattresses similar to the ones that are available to the general public?
In other words, could we say that people can enjoy the same luxury during a hospital stay as in their own home? Tempur-Pedic manufactures various types of TEMPUR material, which is used in both  consumer and medical mattresses.  Patients report high levels of satisfaction and comfort, as well as, better sleep on a Tempur-Pedic mattress in the hospital, just as people do on their Tempur-Pedic mattresses at home.
