Ascom FreeNET Voice Over WiFi (VoWiFi)
The Ascom FreeNET VoWiFi Solution is a standards-based clinical-grade wireless telephone solution that combines voice, messaging and personal alarm capabilities into a single, easy to use communication device, the Ascom i75 Medic handset. FreeNET, the industry’s first 802.11b/g solution, couples mission-critical full-duplex voice communications with powerful, yet flexible, messaging integrations with existing systems.

The Ascom VoWiFi solution consists of four key components:
- The Ascom VoIP Gateway controls and manages all call activities as well as enables internal/external calls in case of catastrophic PBX failure. The Ascom VoIP Gateway is the only solution on the market today that is eligible for HRSA grant reimbursement as a disaster-recovery solution
- The Portable Device Manager (PDM) centralizes management of all Ascom handsets even in a WAN environment. The “Virtual SIM” feature allows each user to customize their feature settings and automatically download them to any handset by logging in with their personal extension.
- The Ascom i75 handset is a lightweight, rugged, water resistant wireless voice and messaging communications device that operates on the wireless Local Area Network (WLAN)
- The UNITE professional messaging suite for automation of key alerts and alarms from existing hospital information systems (such as nurse call, ADT, radiology, laboratory and building management) directly to mobile devices of clinical and support staff
